Sunday's Selection

In May of this year one of my favourite female singers of all-time passed. Her name is Lena Horne.

I was always so intrigued with her life. It was difficult at first for her. Having African American heritage, it wasn't easy in her formative years as a singer. She had to put up with and live through a lot of bigotry and racism. She succeeded in spite of it all.

Check out her biographytime-line here. An amazing life of an amazing woman.

  1. Love it! She was so beautiful. And nothing beats the old Classics, and especially musicals!! This is one I haven't seen... I'm going to go to Netflix and put it in my queue.

  2. I read or heard an interview with her once and she said the movies never really knew what to do with her or her talent. They'd drop her into a movie for a song or two, but wouldn't cast her in a meaningful role because she was black. And by the time blacks did have good roles in movies, she was too old to be a leading lady. So the poor woman got prejudice coming and going!

Thank-you also for your kind commments for Hamlet. Your telling me about your Jessie really did help and provided some good 'reminders' about the goals and what's most important. I hope you're enjoying your Sunday!
