It is the 'Victoria Day' weekend here in Canada.
We Canadians honour Queen Victoria for her
contributions to society during her long reign
by recognizing the Monday before May 25th as a holiday.

This piece is from the ITV series, 'Victoria'.
It is very well done and educational.
I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

Hello summer!!!

It is very typical here in Nova Scotia to not have a 'spring' at all.
One day it can be 3C and the next 33C.

Everything is 'greening up' very quickly....everywhere.

Our Jade plant is growing like gang-busters....must be the coffee  I feed it!

Glorious day at the beach yesterday morning....Ron and Sophie.

Remains of an old British fort at the park....

Looking west on the beach yesterday......

The squirrels are really quite tame at the park.

 Looking east on the beach.....

Sunset on the 'hill' Thursday evening.....

Our 'Star Magnolia' full bloom......the insects are loving it!

It was a true coincidence that I put this framed 'Jacques Cartier
Erects the Cross' print in the shop on the 375th anniversary
of his 'founding' of Quebec.

Same sunset....different angle

The backs of blossoms can be just as interesting......Star Magnolia

Have a great weekend everyone!

This song was probably my mother's favourite.
And this one by Patti Page was probably the one she heard most
back in the early 50's.

Have a wonderful Mother's Day everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

Out and about......

Taken from the shop....these surfers were checking out the conditions.

I 'found' this wonderful  'folding table and chair' set this week.
It was made in London, Ontario back in the '40's.
It is heading to the shop soon.

....down on the boardwalk....

We have a small Acadian community down the road from us.
There are about 34,000 Acadians in Nova Scotia.
That would be about 3.8 % of the population.
My great-great grandfather, Theodore Cuvelier,
was considered to be a 'late Acadian'.
He arrived after the deportation of the thousands of Acadians
which started in 1755 and ended in 1763.

Must be SPRING! The cyclists have returned.

A green house.....

I love it when I don't drive!

Highway to nowhere?

We love 'our' trail down at the beach.
It is part of the 'Trans Canada Trail'
that stretches across our great country from coast to coast.

A 'nursing log' doing what it does best.

This is a chestnut bud just beginning to open....nature at it's best.

What a way to end the week!
This is one of a few of Egrets that are settling-in near the marsh
opposite the beach.
They are attracting a lot of attention.

Here is one of the most moving songs I have ever heard.
It is by Kate and Anna McGarrigle
and was written by Anna in 1975.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

'Fog sandwich'......

The top layer of this 'sandwich' is filled with sunshine and flowers
from our garden.

The 'filling' is stuffed with fog ....
like the one above of the Atlantic View Trail.

....now add a little 'green filling'
from Birch Cove Park in Dartmouth.....

....throw in 2 cycling enthusiasts on the Trail.....

.....a good 'shake' of runners will add the spice.....

.....now for a dash of  woodland at Birch Cove.....

.....a 'mound' of golden spread from Hawkins Hill.....

......a smidge of well-rotted organic matter......

.....add a view from atop a high hill....

.....make sure 'first responders' are close by.....

.....and a quick exit is possible if needed....

......to hold all this 'filling'
now let's add a double layer of sunshine!!

.....what can I say.....it was a great way to end a week of fog.
