Contemplative Monday

The following quote is taken from 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes from Pema Chodron':

DISSOLVING OUR SELF-IMPORTANCE

"The fixed idea that we have about ourselves as solid and separate
from each other is painfully limiting.

It is possible to move through the drama of our lives without
believing so earnestly in the character that we play.

That we take ourselves so seriously, that we are so absurdly important
in our own minds, is a problem for us.

We feel justified in being annoyed with everything.

We feel justified denigrating ourselves or in the feeling
that we are more clever than other people.

Self-importance hurts us, limiting us to the narrow world
of our likes and dislikes.

We end up bored to death with ourselves and our world.
We end up never satisfied.

We have two alternatives: either we question our beliefs----
or we don't.

Either we accept our fixed versions of reality,
or we begin to challenge them.

In Buddha's opinion, to train in staying open and curious-----

to train in dissolving our assumptions and beliefs------

is the best use of our human lives."

Saturday Morning Post

At low tide, Christmas Day.........

Sophie to self: 'If I stayed perfectly still right here in this seaweed,

maybe, just maybe, I'd have some peace to myself.

Not that I don't love my Dads, but there comes a time when I just HAVE TO

pull a fast one over on them!'

Whispering to herself and staying very still: 'Can you believe it?
They are walking right past me! I DID it!'

Daddy Jim: 'Uh Soph! You coming?'

'Darn you Mr.Orangie! You blow my cover every time!!!!'

Reflections of.........

It was around 4:15 P.M. on Wednesday as we were ending our walk

in Point Pleasant Park that I noticed these reflections at
Black Rock Beach.

And the source of these were two cranes.......of the stationary kind.

Christmas Hangover

The buildup to Christmas can be exhausting, exciting, mesmerizing
and downright bewildering at times.

But isn't it always worth it in the end? For me, yes!

We had a wonderful Christmas here.......good food, music, family, and a few neat gifts!

Did I mention it can be exhausting? This would be a great time to visit an exotic resort........

.......as we did in 1988 in Venezuela! That would be Ron!

Contemplative Monday

For this post may I recommend we all just sit back,
look around and embrace what we see in front of us.
And I don't mean this computer screen!! lol

Now if we could just take a cue from my grand-niece Julia,
who figured out a way to 'just sit back' and watch
at our family Christmas get-together on Saturday.

We have so much for which to be thankful.
Let's contemplate that this week.

Merry Christmas.
