Eclectic Tastes

My blogger friend, John from Wales, posted this on his blog
a couple of weeks ago......I liked it immediately.

It is of course the classic by Simon and Garfunkel, 'Sounds of Silence'.
It, for me anyway, reveals a deeper/darker message.......
probably due to the strong voice.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Eclectic Tastes

When I was a child my family would often spend time in Prince Edward Island
in the summertime.....my maternal grandparents were both originally from there.

It felt like a second home almost.......all those long red clay roads
and the car always getting covered in it.

The artist today is Lennie Gallant.
He is from and lives in P.E.I.
He was and still is a popular 'folk musician' in Canada.

'Abegweit' is the Mi'kmaq name for P.E.I.
This First Nations people lived there before 'we' arrived.

I am imagining having this whole beautiful island
in the middle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence
all to yourself......

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

The week started off with our first BIG snow storm/nor'easter on Monday
which lasted for 36 hours.

The above shot was taken half-way through.

This was the back garden on Tuesday morning....

This was taken the day before the storm....Sunday
at the Northwest Arm in Flemming Park.

This is the Dingle Tower at Flemming Park
....as kids my parents took us here regularly for the beach
and the climb up into the tower.

This was taken from my shop last Saturday looking out into the Atlantic.

Looking down the road partway through the storm.....

Colour and warmth back inside the house.....
this painting was done by a fellow, Francois, I met who was from Montreal
and was selling his estate due to illness.
He came to see me at the shop to see if I was interested
in what he had. He had incredible things which I could not resist
and he was very pleased that he was able to move them along.
I call this 'still-life'  Boiled Dinner .

'One too many'!!....at the shop.

Snow/winter garden = winter art

Two very large cargo tankers on the horizon....

Winter stream at the Dingle Tower....

Pre-storm walk on beach....

Fresh frozen trickle....

Pine tree and snow drifts in garden.....

Another view of the Dingle Tower....

Saturday Morning Post

This week is brought to you by 'winter in Nova Scotia'.....

These container cranes are SO BIG down on the Halifax waterfront....

They remind me of something out of 'Star Wars'!
Check out the sheer ice on this path....Thursday as Sophie
and I hiked through the park.
I swear by my 'Yaktraks'!

A quick warm-up at the shop and we are off again!

I have been at these remains of the old British fortresses
since my brothers and I played there as kids.

They have all been reinforced for safety sake.

Ron at Lake Banook earlier in the week.....

Container crane reflection in Halifax Harbour.....

When I was a kid we could go inside this part of the fortress.

This side of that far piece of land is the entrance to Halifax Harbour.....
taken from the shop on the Eastern Shore......where we live.

Solitary bench at the park.....

Sophie this week......almost time for a trim!

Thursday along the Northwest Arm trail.....

A bench near Lake Banook.....

There is something about benches....can't explain it.
Maybe their emptiness.....

The courage to take a risk and trust your instincts.......
I think we all were at that point in our lives at one point.

 is not far away.

The salt marsh in winter.....

Winter at the park......

Hiking through the park this week....

Oh Canada......
