Retro Saturday

Today I'd like to introduce to you the artistry of Cheticamp Rug Hooking.

Pretty well every house in Nova Scotia had at least one coaster or trivet from these talented people.

They have been in business for a very long time and the 'art' is passed from one generation to another.

To learn more about them, click on this link or the one above.

And since I have your attention, just to let you know that a 'sample' of their work is included in the 'giveaway' I am having right now.

Just click on the link in the upper left corner of this post under the header to see what it's all about.

I Can See Clearly Now......

Sometimes, the closer one gets to a 'situation',

the clearer one can 'see'.

Other times, I have found that

when I take a step backwards

and 'view' the situation from this distant perspective,

things become clearer from this vantage point.

Which works best for you?

Thinking Out Loud

As much as I try at times to keep things simple in my life,

I will manage to complicate things just enough to have to start over again.

Chris, from 'Grow Fish Eat' wanted to see this in B/W. Hey, I'm here for you all!! lol

A Somewhat Random Moment At The Lights

Sophie and I were walking around the block in Halifax last week

killing some time while Ron was at an appointment.

When I looked across the street at a bunch of 'daycare' kids I noticed someone.

Ron was waiting for the lights to change.

Sophie saw him too and she would have darted across the street

if she hadn't been on a leash.

It was like an August day in Nova Scotia with the temperature at 30 C (about 86 F).

The odd thing about this was that the trees didn't have a single leaf on them!

I was glad Ron waited for the light and didn't 'jaywalk' at this point! lol

It was still the middle of March!

When was that light going to change?

Ah! Finally! The 3 Amigos reunited!

If Ron doesn't get run over that is!

Sophie was beyond herself!

and yes I was glad to see him too!

Bill Board....GIVEAWAY

A local Rock radio station which LOVES to 'turn heads'.

Now that I have your attention!

I do realize that billboards can smother a location to death, not to mention

destroy the look on an area, but there is a strip of these 'boards' at the approaches to one of the bridges in Halifax

and I couldn't resist 'capturing' them the other day as we were whipping past.

In a way I suppose these could tell a little bit about a community.

I don't suspect we are much different from any other North American city.

My niece Brynn is the newscaster at this station and the lady above is my brother-in-law's cousin.

Some of these ads are very 'local' in nature while the majority are 'national' ones.

Now if one was clever enough, one could 'string' all these billboards together

and make up a limerick/verse/paragraph that would be hilarious!

And since I do not fit into this category whatsoever, I thought it would be fun

to throw it out to you guys!!

I know some of you would fit quite nicely. Even if you don't think you are good with words,

give it a try! See what you can come up with by looking at these billboards and being creative!

Have fun!

Oh yes, a WINNER will be picked at random from everyone who enters a verse or whatever using the billboards above as your source.

And the prize will be a few things that are indigenous to and made in Nova Scotia!  Here is a photo of the 'booty' that could be yours!
l to r: Cheticamp hand-hooked hanging, Nova Scotia Tartan trivet, pewter sand-dollar and  Mayflower (NS provincial flower) notes.

Only a couple of 'rules' (can't help it, I was a teacher for too long lol!) :
1. You have to be a follower of 'Ocean Breezes' when you post your entry
2. You MUST use some of the content from at least 7 of the billboards.
3. Your 'entry' must be posted on this post only.
4. You can enter more than once if you wish.

This give-away closes Saturday, April 21, 2012 at midnight ADT (Atlantic Daylight Time). It is open to everyone no matter where you live.

You must be 19 years of age or older and with no prior criminal convictions.....kidding!

Take your time and see what you can come up with.

Contemplative Monday

EFFORT WITH A LIGHT TOUCH

"This point is essential:

mindfulness tethers the mind to the present.

Initially this takes effort,

but this effort is applied  with a very light touch.

It's like brushing your teeth:

you brush, you get distracted,

and you just naturally come back.

No big deal. By gently returning to the present,

our mind calms down, and everything seems workable."

Eclectic Tastes

On this first Sunday of Spring 2012 I would like to dedicate this piece to our mothers. This is one of my favourite Dvorak compositions and one that Joshua Bell performs very well. I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful Sunday.

Retro Saturday

This video clip takes us back to 1954 with a look at men's fashions. I was more amazed at the audience, they all looked terrified!

Her Royal Highness

As long as we have to wait a bit for our summer flowers,

I will have to settle for these 'leftovers' from last season.

Maybe 'settle' is not the right word.

When I saw these 'spent' Queen Anne's Lace

I couldn't help notice the delicate 'remains'  of  this noble summer flower.

These are about to become the nutrients for the next generation.
