Contemplative Monday

THE ROPE OF MINDFULNESS

"Cultivating mind's inherent capacity to stay put

is called mindfulness training. Mindfulness is like the rope

that keeps the wild elephant from destroying everything in sight.

The rope of mindfulness brings us back to our immediate experience:

to our breath, to our walking, to the book in our hands."

  2. It's very early and everyone else is still sleeping. Staying put comes easy at this hour - in both mind and body. Can't promise anything later :) Love the photos, particularly those brightly-coloured ones.

    1. I used to love that time in the morning before anybody was up....my time for yoga then.
You said it Martha, 'staying put' is the key throughout the day....as much as is possible....which sometimes is NEVER depending eh?
When the flags are really flapping in the breeze it presents great photo opportunities.

    1. Thanks Deb. It is not intentional I can tell you. But it just seems that once in a while the photos go perfectly with the text. These flags are so colourful that they stand out and you can't miss them...so when the sun and breeze were hitting them,I snapped away!

    1. They have certainly brightened up the back yard this winter! A staff member from the vet's next door came over one day in the fall and asked what they were. They had a bet going in the hospital that they were tea towels!! Well, I hooted! And so did they when they found out what they were.

    1. Mindfulness is just being aware of what you are doing at the present time...taking a photo (you are very mindful when you do this), doing the dishes, srubbing the floor, cleaning the toilet....whatever. Staying focused as much as you can and not letting the mind wonder away...like it always has the tendency to do.

  8. I'm afraid I've lost my mind too. Falling into self-pity and upset about not being well and hurting all over again. But this too shall pass. And I appreciate you setting us straight each Monday morning.

    1. I'v lost track Inger on the number of times I've 'lost my mind'!! lol Seriously, if we manage to just stay focused on what we are doing for a few minutes a day, then I think that is good....instead of all the discursive thoughts that we entertain day in and day out.
Now to practice what I preach!
