Saturday Morning Post

A week in November......

Yesterday I set up a 'crystal display' at the shop.

Yesterday was my mother's birthday. She would have been 94. This photo was taken in 1939.

Long stretch over the dunes to the beach.

At the shop....

A lamp heading to the shop.

Lustreware and Carnival glass at the shop.

We have a name now for the 'devil child'! It is 'Ricky'. Thanks Martha!

Ron took this photo of a Heron and a flock of ducks at the salt marsh.

Then there was light! Last Sunday from my 'perch' at the shop.

A 'ghost dog'?

This made us smile the other day when we were stopped at a light.
Ron and I met in the summer of July '73.
ETE is French for 'summer'.

Sniff Sniff

Inspector Sophie checking out who was at the park before she got there.

She had a 'hair-cut' the other day.

Comes With The Territory

A nor'easter heading our way tonight and tomorrow.
Luckily it is off shore a ways, so we won't get a direct hit.
Lot's of wind and rain though.

I still LOVE living near the ocean.

Yet another shot from MacDonald Hill.

And One Makes Four

We have an announcement to make!!

We would like to introduce you to our latest addition to the family....

His name is.......?

Actually I found out yesterday that I was the highest bidder for this little fella
at an silent auction in the city.
The plan is to use him in my shop or in the other shop with vintage clothing.

Besides having 'wonky' eyes, which I hope to straighten out, he isn't in bad shape
considering his (actual) age......about 40 years old I figure.

The guy at the shop which had the auction said that he was glad this maniquin
found a home. It was creeping him out!!
Must be the eyes!

What name would you give him?
(Now be kind!!lol)

Surf and Safari

When Ron and Sophie are on a walk together, something special happens.

This is a photo Ron took on Sunday at the beach, in the dunes, on the way to the beach.

Looks like Sophie is on a safari in the savannah of Africa!

Contemplative Monday

The following quote is taken from 'The Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh' (click)
published by Shambhala Pocket Classics.

RESTING

" My dear friends, suppose someone is holding a pebble and throws it in the air
and the pebble begins to fall down into a river.
After the pebble touches the surface of the water, it allows itself to sink slowly into the river.
It will reach the bed of the river without any effort.
Once the pebble is at the bottom of the river, it continues to rest.
It allows the water to pass by.

I think the pebble reaches the bed of the river by the shortest path
because it allows itself to fall without making any effort.
During our sitting meditation we can allow ourselves to rest like a pebble.

We can allow ourselves to sink naturally without effort to the position of sitting,
the position of resting.
Resting is a very important practice,
we have to learn the art of resting."

Saturday Morning Post

MacDonald Hill as seen from the beach.
My shop is in that house just right of centre.

First freeze-0ver of pond at the Point Pleasant Park yesterday.

Even too cold for Sophie!

During storms and very high tides, these stones are tossed way up over the dunes.

Ron and Sophie waiting for me.

In and out.

Someone placed these three stones to have a perfect view.

Wood, grass and rocks.

The ducks are on the pond......(to quote my high school vice-principal from the 60's).

On a cold November day along the boardwalk.

Spectacular sunsets lately.

End of the line for this dune grass.

Is It Over Yet?

November in Nova Scotia (and just maybe everywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere)
has got to be the toughest month of the year.

Firstly, it gets dark at 4:30 PM!
Secondly, it gets colder by the day.
Thirdly, we witness all the 'green' disappear (that can't be good for anyone).
Fourthly, it can be warm/cool/cold/freezing at any time any day.
Fifthly, the sky can be dark yet the sun appears somewhere out of a crack
in the sky and it begins to snow.(as in the photo below)
Sixthly (is there any such thing as a sixthly?), it takes the whole month to feel like you have
had a good nights sleep.
I could go on but will leave the rest up to you, fellow bloggers.

What are your feelings about the month of November?
Jean in New Zealand...you may reply if you wish!! lol

A Shooting At High Noon

Howdy 'pilgrims' !

Couldn't resist saying that!

Yesterday we were at the beach around the noon hour.
If this was summer I would never attempt to shoot directly into the sun and water.
But it is mid-November and the sun is not as powerful here in Nova Scotia.

This is what I got....with a little help from Sophie (I discovered later).

All these photos are SOOC....Straight Out Of Camera.

You just never know unless you try.

It's A-maze-ing

To give you a 'feel' of walking through the dune grass at the beach.......

The green is fading quickly and we are left with this golden field.
We usually just follow Sophie through this maze
and she will always come back to us
to make sure we haven't gone anywhere.

Contemplative Monday

This past week Thich Nhat Hanh had a serious brain hemorrhage in France.
He is being monitored closely by medical staff.
His community is asking for everyone to send positive thoughts/energy his way.

Today's quote by Thich Nhat Hanh (click to learn more) is taken from
'The Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh'
by Shambhala Pocket Classics.

FREEDOM

"The basic condition of happiness is freedom.
If there is something on your mind that you keep thinking about,
then you are caught and have no freedom.
If you are caught in sorrow and regret about the past,
or if you are anxious about what will happen to you in the future,
then you are not really free to enjoy the many wonders of life
that are available in the here and now.

The blue sky, the beautiful trees, the lovely faces of children, the flowers,
and the birds can nourish and heal us in the present moment."
