Retro Saturday

This video clip takes us back to 1954 with a look at men's fashions. I was more amazed at the audience, they all looked terrified!

    1. Yes the 'casual' was a little shaky!

  2. Marvelous ! Yes very Cary Grant ! Shorts & socks will never go but I suppose some have to look smart in hot climates & can hardly wear beach shoes to work ...now socks with Kilts DO go !
As for smoking on the cat walk.... !

    1. But Penny, smoking was cool! And it would look like something was 'missing' if smoking was absent....it went hand in hand.
Yes, socks with kilts DO work for me!! Now where can I get my hands on a MacDonald tartan kilt!!!

  4. That shorts and vest combo was something else, minus the knee sock!

    1. Especially compared to what the audience was wearing, it made him look VERY out of place!

  6. Not sure what to think about the whistling men...well, I DO know what to think, but I didn't think people were so OPEN back then. :P

    1. They were just 'enthusiastic' and getting a little carried away, I guess. You can bet they weren't OPEN/OUT back then.

  7. I am really glad that some of those fashions never took off! I do love a man in a suit though! I thought the audience looked great - in today's world, they would be wearing jeans & T-shirts with that 'rumpled' look.

    1. I suppose the audience was 'hand-picked' as they are today! Yes, I love a nice suit!

  8. I love these old clips you find. That Bermuda shorts outfit was weird but not when you compare it to some of the fashions today. I liked the mobile catwalk.

  9. I thought the trailer was going to dump the guys...would have loved that! Whistling is so de rigueur it seems!

  10. I love a well dressed man, and was watching and thinking that men's fashions hadn't changed much but then they showed the shorts and the sleeveless jacket for work--Thank heavens that sleeveless jacket never took off and the more recent one of men wearing two popped collars that to me said, 'I can afford to wear two shirts at once and I can afford to wear them incorrectly.' :-)

  11. Thank you so much for your kind comment on my post of yesterday. It meant a lot to me. The clothes were great here, I am a bit surprised at that. I guess we went downhill from then on through the 70s and 80s. Maybe the audience worried the guys might fall off that little platform the stood on.

  12. I was really enjoying the show until the bermuda shorts came on! When will you men ever learn that is not an attractive look??? Especially when your in your old age...haha. I was waiting for the truck to dump them all into the audience...that might have woken them up! Great find.

    1. Now that would have been an interesting addition to this boring 'show'. Oh, just so you know, I don't wear Bermuda shorts!! lol

    1. It was a bit odd, wasn't it! Wonder if people will think the same in the future about today? Probably.
