Contemplative Monday

The following quote was taken from 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes from Pema Chodron':

HUMOR AND OPENNESS

"Learning how to be kind to ourselves is important.

When we look into our own hearts and begin to discover what is confused and what is brilliant,

what is bitter and what is sweet, it isn't just ourselves that we're discovering.

We're discovering the universe.

When we discover the Buddha that we are, we realize that everything and everyone is Buddha.

We discover that everything is awake, and everyone is awake.

Everything and everyone is precious and whole and good.

When we regard thoughts and emotions with humor and openness,

that's how we perceive the universe."

Taken at the boardwalk last week.

  2. The one before last picture is the best one!!
Forgive my cynical self on this Monday morning,
possibly due to the fact that I'm only halfway done with the coffeepot,
but some folks are more "awake" than others
and in dire need of a slap behind the head...
But if they find the humor in accepting this,
I'll be open minded into delivering said slap!!
    Have a good week!!
    :)~

    1. I know who to call to administer the 'slap' now!! You cynical?! I find you have a very open mind with your eyes wide open most of the time......with a twist of humour thrown in for good measure. Have a great week too!

  3. Hello Jim,
Being kind to ourselves is so important, not always thought about. Thank you for the blue sky, I need some of that here and soon!! Have a good week.

    1. Overcast in Normandy too!? Do you normally get a lot of sun in winter?
Yes, we often forget to be kind to ourselves, don't we.
A good week for you too.

  7. Beautiful words! Beautiful skies! Being kind to ourselves is so important! Sometimes we forget.

I try to smile at myself in the mirror every morning and love the marks of life on my face. Some days it's harder than others! Today was a challenge, because my cold is getting worse, not better. It takes a lot of kindness to love that face looking back at me today, let me tell you! But I've been drinking ginger tea and enjoying everyone's blogs - especially the music like Cara Emerald's and Neil Young's (The Black River Blog).

Your skies are Colorado blue in your photos. Gorgeous!

    Have a good one, Jim!

    1. LOL! You are so funny Louise! Whether you know it or not! Still sick?! Take care of yourself as I know you are.
Getting acquainted with those 'marks' is good therapy as far as I/m concerned. Hope you are feeling better soon. Make sure that Terry is serving you ANYTHING you need!!

    2. Terry has been awesome! I've turned a corner I think! I'm a little better.
It must have been the hot chicken soup Terry made for me last night. From a can - his idea of cooking - but he did chop up some extra chicken breast and add it to the pot! Have a good one.

    1. Oh I know what you mean Sharon! I think the fact that we are all the same at the start, can make it easier to accept everyone....faults and all.

  9. Ticklebear made me laugh!
It seems easier to be kind to others than myself. Sometimes I hear a nasty little self-voice that says things like "you dummy", etc. to me. I'd never think of anyone else that way, only myself. I'd sure like to get rid of that voice.
