Contemplative Monday

The following passage is from 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes From Pema Chodron'.

TROUBLEMAKERS SHOW US WHERE WE'RE STUCK

"Those who give us a hard time, who are difficult to be around
or who constantly blow our cover,

are the very ones who show us where we were stuck.

The great meditation master Atisha always traveled with his
Bengali tea-boy because it kept him honest.

Without his ill-tempered servant to test him,
he might have been able to deceive himself
about his degree of equanimity.

Troublemakers up the ante:
if we can practice patience with them,

we can practice it with anyone."

    1. I grew up with the adage...."patience is a virtue'. And having a very large family, patience was very necessary in order to survive. It was hard at times.

    1. Oh I hear you Jeanne.....especially in your work. When I worked, I kept all my patience for the students but had nothing left for the 'adults' at work. Had to really work at this.

  5. Jim-- I can so identify with this quote-- I must deal with difficult people everyday-- it has taught me the importance of patience--- and taking a deep breath before I speak--

  7. Elementary teachers will get this one!!!!! Hey Jim ~ just got back from the mountains and decided to catch up on your posts before I faced reality. Love your SMP ~ the fog pictures, especially the lone tree on Citadel Hill. OMG! Do I love Fiddler MacIsaac! I'm a big fan of Celtic fiddle music, thanks to Gus McKinnon of CJFX (Antigonish). Terry liked it too ~ he was tapping and nodding to the beat and then looked at my computer to see what it was. Great lapping wave pictures ~ but it looks cold! Have a good one!

    1. For sure elementary teachers and also ALL teachers!!
You like Ashley eh? He used to be quite a wild guy and very unpredictable as to what he said and did. He is maturing now and somewhat more 'settled' with what he wants to do, it seems.
But it IS cold here Louise! Geez, you ex-pats forget everything!! lol
