The Art of Zen and Granite

Last week I mentioned on a post that our friend, June,
who moved to France last month to join her daughter,
gave us a painting she did of Ron back in 1987.

I remember the day the photo was taken for this painting.
We three, June, Ron and I were in Peggy's Cove,
Nova Scotia.

This is an area/village along the south shore of this province.
There is a lighthouse that is surrounded by white granite rock.
It is quite an unusual sight to behold.....
all that granite stretching along the shore for as far as the eye can see.

It was a fall/autumn day and I remember Ron 'zenning out' beside a huge granite rock,
and examining a tiny berry he found along the shore.

I am glad June took this photo and then interpreted it the way she did.
You can see that it has been slightly damaged over time
but the memories of that day are intact.

    1. Martha, it may have been June's 'colour' period......you know how artists go through these stages!

  3. I love the painting. And how nice to be frozen in time like that. A portrait of Dorian Grey to be used as Ron sees fit!

    1. Actually getting this painting has brought back good memories for him, Craig. June was a mentor of sorts at that time and she has influenced our lives in ways we were not aware of at the time.

  4. Hey Craig, Ron doesn't need a portrait of Dorian Grey to remain young -- he always looks youthful in the photos Jim posts of him. It's quite amazing.

    1. Debra, not when you consider that every photo has to pass Ron's scrutiny before publishing!! lol
And besides, next to me, Ron is very youthful looking.....so much for 1 and a half years age difference!! Some people have all the genes.

  5. I remember that day like it was yesterday ~ I found a red berry which grows in the bog nearby and I was inspecting it. The granite rock was a perfect place to lean and to also view the waves crashing. This particular spot is far from the hordes of peoples so it is quite peaceful and soul rejuvenating!

    Ron here!

    1. We shall return to that spot, Ron, as soon as the weather warms up a little. We can use some quiet peace and soul rejuvenation. So, it's a date!!

  6. A memory captured by an artist is the best! Now I wonder - does Ron still wear any of those clothes?
