Contemplative Monday

Here's a reminder about the GIVE-AWAY I am having...
just 2 more days!!

The following quote is from 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes From Pema Chodron'.

THREE OBJECTS, THREE POISONS, AND THREE SEEDS OF VIRTUE

"The three objects are: friends, enemies, and neutrals.

The three poisons are: craving, aversion, and indifference.

When you feel craving, you own it fully and wish that all beings could be free of it.

When you feel aggression or indifference you do the same.

In this way what usually causes suffering-----what poisons us and others-----

becomes a seed of compassion and loving-kindness, a seed of virtue."

  2. Oh, I need a coffee. I read Pema Chodron's first sentence as: "The three objects are: friends, enemies, and squirrels." What an odd thing for a Buddhist nun to say, thought I.

    1. To say the least, Kathy. I found and still find it takes a couple of reads to fully appreciate these teachings. Buddhists approach things from a different slant than what we are used to.
Good to 'see' you. How's the dyeing going?

    1. Thanks Pat. The fog produced a slight greenish tone and I exaggerated/darkened it to better see those those small sailboats.

  5. I had to read it twice to understand the message. So true though. And those green boats are great. Good and unusual choice of color.

    1. Only twice Inger!! I had to a few times as well.
Well, the fog caused a greenish hue when I downloaded photos and I 'went from there'!

    1. It does, doesn't it Louise! Hey if we meditated on this one teaching....the rest would fall into place!! I wish!
Good to see you here after your vacation!

  7. I, too, loved Debra's comment :) And, must admit, I had to read Pema Chodron's words three times, so had a similar response to yours for Inger's comment. I'm so impressed, Jim, that you have kept so faithfully to this very successful format of always finding great photos (!) to match Chodron's words on Mondays.

    1. Hi Carol, good to see you again.
Sometimes, especially when I began to 'read' Pema Chodron's teachings, it took a while to adjust to this way of looking at things. I struggled but eventually 'saw a light at the end of the (proverbial) tunnel'.
You know, and I know you do, I take many photographs and there is bound to be a few that will 'fit' in well with Pema's message.
