That Time Of Year Here In Nova Scotia

In late August, in this area of the world at least, the blackberries are ready to 'harvest'!
They are everywhere at the park in Halifax and Sophie and I had a feast over the weekend.
Yes, she LOVES them too! And will 'pick' them herself without any signs of thorn damage!

The ones below in the photo were at the canal in the Valley on Saturday.
They are my favourite berry. I remember eating them like there was 'no tomorrow'
while biking the Oregon coast back in the 80's.
I have liked them ever since.

What is your favourite berry?

  1. My favourite berry is the raspberry…just eaten some in my porridge along with blueberries. Sadly they don't grow in the " wild" here in SE England, so I have to buy them at the supermarket. We have a few rasps growing in the garden but not enough for breakfast every day! I have never seen so many blackberries in the hedgerows as there are this year….they say it is down to the warm winter we had. I think we just had 3 mild morning frosts all winter.

  2. Blueberries by far, we have visited a farm that sells them as " Pick your own" and so yummy, eat as you work. I have had a wee smile, I scrolled down to one of your links, with references to winter clothing!!! We wear merino singlets, long or short sleeved top or camisole, for most of the year, warm in winter, ( I have 2 layers most days, Hugh has one long sleeved heavier weight one) and surprisingly, cool in summer. Cheers,Jean.

  4. Blueberries when baked in something. Not a fan of them fresh. I do love most berries, however, when IN something else.

  9. I am a fan of Strawberries! There are wild blueberry patches all around the lake shore near the Casablanca.
We pick and preserve some every now and then. And I love to make home blueberry jam with them!
