Eclectic Tastes

Stompin' Tom is from Prince Edward Island and it is there that we are goin'.

My sister kindly offered us her cottage for a few days next week. We will leave Monday and be back on Friday.

The main crop on PEI is potatoes. They will be growing everywhere in every available field/space from one side of the Island to the other. This is where McCain's get their potatoes for their frozen French Fries....just in case you were wondering..

PEI is also the birthplace of Lucy Maude Montgomery, the author of Anne (with an 'e') of Green Gables.

It was also the birthplace of the Charlottetown Conference (1864) which started the process of forming the country of Canada.

As a child my family always spent part of the summer there. My mother's parents were both from PEI.

See you when we get back and have a great week.

    1. Jean, thank you. As soon as we 'land' on PEI soil, the reminders begin. It is a very special place, quite unique unto itself.......a summer paradise and yet in the winter it turns into a cold, windswept island.

  7. As a travel agent, one of my favorite customers loved going to Prince Edward Island. I still have the little Anne of Green Gables doll that they brought me back.
Those potatoes sound like something I would really like right now!

    1. You know what Kay? Those potatoes can be bought at almost any farm at the end of their driveway....all you do is leave your $$$ in a bucket and away you go with a bag of potatoes!
Been to Anne's 'place' many times but not lately.

    2. You should have a "giveaway" on your blog and the prize should be a box of those potatoes. You do know you are lucky to live in such a great spot of the world, right?

  8. OH! OH! OH!!! I FREAKING LOVE STOMPIN' TOM! I even saw him in concert. YEAH! I'M NOT ASHAMED! OH! My parents went to PEI and brought me home a bag of THE best potatoes ever. Seriously--even if the bags in the grocery stores say 'PEI' POTATOTES on them, they are NOT like the bag my Mom brought me. Those potatoes even had that magical red dirt on them. Magic. Now I'm sad. No! Be happy! Have a wonderful trip :)

  9. My sense of geography is all off, but were you affected by that tropical storm/hurricane that just buzzed by? I love whenever you post about PEI so will be looking forward to another installment (this means that I've been following you for awhile, doesn't it?). Hope all's well with you and the family!!!

  12. Good to meet you, Jim. I envy you your trip to Prince Edward Island. I love telling folks at our karate club who swear by bananas that potatoes have far more potassium than bananas.

    I'm your newest subscriber.

  13. What a great post! Hope you had a wonderful time. I'm so glad you wrote at the top "... from Prince Edward Island." I thought he was singing "the bumpin' treadward island"! That would have left me very confused. I also love the way he says potatoes -- just like the traditional way in Maine. Kind of like po-day-doughs.
