Contemplative Monday

The following quote is taken from 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes From Pema Chodron'.

OPENING TO THE MIRACLE

"Meditation begins to open up your life, so that you are not caught in self-concern,

just wanting life to go your way.

In that case you no longer realize that you're standing in the center of the world,

that you're in the middle of a sacred circle,
because you're so concerned with your worries,

pains, limitations, desires, and fears that you are blind to the beauty of existence.

All you feel by being caught up like this is misery, as well as
enormous resentment about life in general.

How strange! Life is such a miracle, and a lot of the time we feel only resentment

about how it's all working out for us."

  1. Great food for thought this morning, Jim! If only we could remember that life truly is a miracle, and focus on appreciating every moment we are here. Beautiful autumn photos today! Have a great Monday.

  3. It really is a miracle that we are here to experience such beauty like you have captured today Jim. I love how Pema Chodron puts things so simply -- but profoundly as well. xo

    1. Thanks so much Nancy. Beauty is all around us as you well know. That is exactly how and why I was so attracted to Pema Chodron's teachings......profound and yet simple to understand. She is very human like the rest of us.

  5. I agree with you. I wonder if it is not a blessing of getting older. I find it gets easier to appreciate life - perhaps because we have more time to think things out.
This mix or yellow and green is marvelous!

    1. Yes Alain, more time and a lot of 'water under the bridge' so that we can be more selective of the things we choose to focus on.
The colours are near their end here....maybe we have one full week to go.

  9. Some wonderful thoughts to ponder-- even in moments of personal grief- there are always those close by who have more cause to be sorrowful. We really should take each day and look for every blessing that comes our way. I try-- I really do--

    1. Oh Vicki, I know you do.We all attempt our best to 'stay focused' on the moment, even when 'life' pushes us in another direction.
