Becoming Acquainted

Sophie met two Springer Spaniels at the Park the other day.

I  always find how dogs 'greet and meet' very interesting.

First their focus is scent. I believe they have strong scent memory.

Once the 'investigation' is complete, they 'store' what they found.

And usually discover that there was no threat here.

They begin to disperse and head back towards their humans

to continue the walk.

  2. lol @ John...great pictures and i do think that if humans follower their instincts (nose?)more a lot of things would turn out better (granted, there still be a few scraps)

  4. I wonder if any other animals "meet and greet" that way, or only dogs? I can't recall ever seeing a picture of any other type of animal doing it.

    1. Good question Debra....can't think of any other than do certain apes/monkeys do this or do they just groom eachother?

  5. Haha! What John said... so funny and TRUE! These pictures are so cute! I have a video I took years ago of Gracie and a few other dogs in a circle 'getting to know one another'. I don't know what I ever did with that video. I think Gracie hid it...

They do the same thing with the cats, although the cats frown on it. ;-)

    1. Dogs noses are something like 400 times more effective than humans! But hey, I am OK with that!!

  7. Wow. They're a couple of beauties. That's the way I always greet new friends, too. It doesn't always go over so well.
