Discovery Day

Today we went to a friend's summer home. It just so happens that her dog, Clancy, is my dog, Sophie's boy friend. They love each other.....have since day one! He is 10 years old and she is 3. Guess she prefers older men!

It was a great day to spend near a lake and Sophie took complete advantage of the water. She was in and out all day. Even Clancy put his feet in the water...... he normally hates it.

We also discovered a couple of 'wild' flower/plants.......Trillium and Lady Slippers. They were growing all through the wooded areas on the property.

We would love to have these in our garden but to reproduce their natural habitat is difficult. And besides it's not an environmentally sound thing to do because they becoming quite scarce. And I think it is against the law here. But it was so great to see them scattered everywhere. Enjoy.

Discovery # 2..........
Sharon from http://Life With Jack n Jill.blogspot.com sent me an award.....for what I am not quite sure.......but I will comply and take it. Thanks Sharon, I love awards!

One of the conditions of this award is to let everyone know a little more about me....that's OK. Here goes:

Ten things you probably don't know about me:

1. I am the oldest son in a family of 9 children.

2. I had a NATURAL Afro in my teens and early 20's.

3. I swam across Canada and the US.....from swimming pool to swimming pool!

4. I have been told that I am too serious for my own good.

5. I love to dance.

6. I would love to sing in a choir or large singing ensemble.

7. I got married just over a year ago.

8. I love reading about history and seeing how things have brought us to this point in time.

9. I love being with friends.

10. I enjoy genealogy and have found lots of 'cousins' all over North America.

Five things I do not like:

1. Mean-spirited people.

2. Eggplant.

3. Animal cruelty.

4. War.

5. Violence.

See, I guess I am kinda serious....oh well, that's me!

  1. I KNEW there was a reason that I picked you - we are quite alike. About the being serious part especially, I have been referred to as "the wet blanket". I loved to dance, I used to sing in the choir.
Wow, oldest of 9, bet that was hard to take as a teen!
I believe you have a beautiful spirit.

So, ok, the award says gorgeous, what the hay!

  2. Actually, I have two older sisters.....I'm the older of four brothers. I'd rather be a 'wet blanket' than a dry one! Thanks Sharon.

  3. I forgot to tell you - Lady Slippers are illegal to take here too. I had only seen drawings, never a real photograph. I love Trillium!
Sophie is quite comfortable with the little guy!
    Have a good night!

  4. Years ago, I built a cabin on a lake in Michigan. We had to alter the plans after we started clearing the land because we found trilliums growing naturally and did not want to disturb them. I have since sold the house to my brother that lives there full time now, and he still has them protected so they bloom every year.

  5. Yes Sharon, Sophie loves the 'little ones'. People pouch these wild flowers here....we've seen them in broad daylight to it!

Stew, how good are you guys!!! Good to hear that some people realize these plants should be protected.

We also have in our area plants called 'Jack-In -The -Pulpits'.......ever heard of them? I think they are a type of wild orchid.

  6. I'm with you on the eggplant thing. It is a beautiful fruit, but totally unsuitable for consumption. I want a PT Cruiser in that deep purple color because I think it looks like an eggplant on wheels.

Sophie and her boy friend are cute together!

  7. I agree with all the things you don't like, except eggplant :)

  8. Very interesting. I can be a serious type, too, but my son keeps the goofy side of me alive.

    Beautiful pictures!

  9. Sophie has very good taste. Who couldn't fall head over heels in love with Clancy! Although I still have to say that Sophie is still number one in my eyes!
Laughed at the swimming pool comment! That was a good one! :)
    History fascinates me too.
And as for your five things you don't like, same here!!

  10. We have the 'Jack-In -The -Pulpits' here too. What a fun little plant when you squeeze the bloom.
My father-in-laws property has them all over the place.

  11. Beautiful place to spend leisurely time. Your shots of the flowers are good and they are so pretty. Enjoyed reading about you!
