Saturday Morning Post

The week in pictures:

Lunch by Ron....open-face chicken/cranberry sandwich.

The last snow event......we think.

I wonder what is in these containers?

Spring moss on rock.

Chandeliers in lobby at Dad's Veterans Home.

Jim, are you coming?

Ron and Sophie heading down towards the shore (Halifax Harbour).

Sophie and I on way to see Dad in Halifax. She is very good at crosswalks now.

We found this very old Hudson's Bay Point Blanket packed away.
It was a wedding gift that Ron's parents got back in 1944!

Ron and Sophie heading back to the car after visit with Dad.

Four days later now and the snow is almost entirely gone.

  1. Old blankets are a much sought out treasure for quilting , turning them into something new. Your Dad has saved it for so many years, has it lived in many different places, or one home where it comforted and kept warm some of his family. . Not sure about all the containers but one does have "CHINA " in it, so I hope they handle it very carefully so plates, cups and saucers arrive safely!!Enjoy the spring days, Cheers from Jean

    1. Hi Jean! Good to 'see'you'! This blanket belonged to Ron's mother and she used it for years. After she died we packed it....15 years ago now. It is still in very good shape.
LOL! Can you just imagine all the 'china' in pieces in those containers!! You are a riot!

  2. Loved the photos but especially loved your find of the Hudson Bay Blanket-looks in good shape and those are worth allot of money and very expensive to purchase new now-I know the family value is more important-but quite a treasure to find-

    1. Hi Kathy. I didn't know these HBC blankets were so well known. I thought only in Canada. I looked them up on line and even the used one are costly.
We are clearing out a lot of stuff from the basement and would sell this very quickly. We need more space!!

  3. Great photos, Jim! That sandwich looks soooo good. I bet you devoured it! The weather seems much better and I'm confident that spring has finally arrived. We also think - and HOPE - that we're done with the snow and cold weather. It's time to enjoy a different season!

  4. Those chandeliers made me think of reindeer for some reason...
I always thought I would like to have a H.B. blanket to make a jacket, until I found out they were wool.
Sophie is a great girl, I'm sure it's nice to walk (and wait) with her.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. I can see that Sharon...they do have that antler look!
Yes HBC blankets are 100% wool. Not too itchy though.
Sophie and I walked without Ron the other day (as in pic) and she is very good when only one of us is with her....more relaxed and walks alongside. She is a sweetie.
Thanks Sharon, I hope your weekend is a good one!

  5. I see you get those stupid Anonymous comments, too. I just ranted about them on my blog and have enabled Comment Moderation, etc. Anyhoo, love your photos and that sammie looks delish. We're deep into Spring down here--wild wisteria is all over the place, bees and wasps are everywhere, the pond turtles (all 25 of them) have come out of hibernation and love to sun themselves on the bank.

    1. Hi Chris! Good to 'see' you. Yes those pesky little Anon comments usually go directly to SPAM....but not this varmint!! May have to do the same...Comment moderation.
I can't imagine 'wild wisteria'!! Well, I can if I tried. We have a time keeping our one going.....but it survives.
25 turtles! Lucky you, that must be a treat to watch them sun-bathing!!
      Have a great weekend Christine.

  7. Happy Easter to you, Ron, and SophieDoodle, and your Dad. I love that he is so well taken care of and that you are able to see him often. I love all of these photos. The moss is special for me because we don't have that much of it here. But we have some.

Mrs.Troke used that HBC blanket for years and then it was packed away. It looks pretty good considering it was bought in 1944! WAY before my time!!!
We did have a great day actually....busy and focused for a change.

Yes Sophie is permitted to go in to see Dad. She had to 'jump through a few hoops' with security department...but she passed with flying colours. She wears an ID around her neck. Dad enjoys her visits.
      Wishing you well Barb.

  16. I love your collection of photos, Jim! The light fixture reminds me of one I saw on a home decorating show--So if it's an old fixture, it's on its way back, if it's new, it's totally "IN" ...Unlike import from China!! :-)
