And Now.....Here Are The Beetles

I found this dead tree to be an interesting subject to photograph
at the park a few days ago.

This is one of many Spruce trees in our region
to be infested by the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle (click to learn more)

This beetle killed most of our spruce trees as well.
One can see the holes left behind on the trunk.

And that is your botany lesson for today, folks.

Have you had similar infestations in your area?

  1. Spruce beetles have made it now to the northern forests of Alberta and BC. The only thing that will kill them is frigidly cold winter weather for an extended period of time. And thanks to global warming, that's getting to be in short supply.

  2. Nothing much in the way of botany down here, unless you can include fast growing grass and weeds!!
