Contemplative Monday

The following is from 'The Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh'
and published by 'Shambhala Pocket Classics'.

"Being compassionate does not mean allowing other
people to do violence to themselves or to you.

Being compassionate means being intelligent.
Non-violent action that springs from love
can only be intelligent action."

  3. Hey Jim, when we were in Cape Breton Island last week, we went to the Shambala Buddhist Monastery there and took a tour. Have you ever been? Pema Chodron was not in residence over the summer but apparently does spend a few months there in the winter. It was very cool. I'll do a blog post in due course with some photos.

    1. I have not been to Gampo Abbey, Debra. I will some day do a weekend retreat there.....it's on my 'list'. Looking forward for your post and impressions.
We attended an evening lesson with Ani Pema a few years ago at Dalhousie. The room was packed....but it was like we were there alone with her. She has a very quiet presence and a great sense of humour.
