She was a very lucky dog.......

Something about an early A.M. phone call that makes one stop for a second.

It was my sister. She had been nursing her dog, Shiloh, for a week and was getting nowhere with the treatment.

Shiloh wasn't an easy dog to bring up. She had been mistreated by her former owners. This didn't stop my sister from 'taking her in'. My sister is very experienced in raising dogs and knows what they need and want in life. Shiloh was a challenge from the time she entered my sister's life. This challenge was met head-on and slowly but surely Shiloh began to enjoy her life and discover that there were humans out there who cared.

Shiloh learned to enter a room full of people and to not completely freak out and run away. She also established a 'verbal' relationship with my Dad. When she was told it was Dad on the phone she would sound off in her familiar "woof woof " to acknowledge one of her trusted friends. This was from a dog who could barely move from fear only a few years ago.

I listened as my sister tried to be brave and acknowledge that she was doing all she could for Shiloh over the past few days. I reassured her that nature was 'taking it's course' and Shiloh was where she wanted to be.....with the person that rescued her.

Shiloh died very peacefully at 3 A.M. this morning next my sister.
