Yesterday, since the sun was shining, we thought we'd go to the beach.
As we got a little closer we saw the 'fog bank' down the road which encircled the entire beach area.
Oh well, it was still a little warmer than usual and a little fog won't stop us!
We parked the car and headed for the far beach which borders on the river.
Once we got to the beach this was Sophie's cue to play with 'Mr.Orangie'.
Ron and Sophie have the whole 'ball-playing' thing down to a tee as can be seen in these photos.
So who said that sunshine is a prerequisite to having fun at the beach? Not us!

Oh Fiddleheads!
When the sun was out the other day I scooted around the garden to see what it looked like with sun shining on it.
It was luminescent with colour and tender shoots popping out everywhere!
I absolutely love ferns this time of year.....actually any time of year but more so now. Did you know that they can be eaten at this stage in their lives?
They can and are called 'Fiddleheads'. I've tried them a few times but didn't care for the taste.....bitter. But they are very popular this time of year around here. I better keep my eyes open for poachers! lol
Just realized something! (I heard that!) You know what they look like at this stage? Embryos.
They are springing up everywhere in the garden and it is amazing to literally just watch them grow from from day to day until they cover up parts of the garden with their 'fan-shaped' fronds.
Busy day today. Off to 'sit' with Dad till noon, then to the car dealership due for a 'recall' check for our car. Guess it could 'fly' off the road if it isn't checked out soon. Better get a move on..........

Visiting Friends
As soon as the sun came out today we were off visiting friends that live further along the Eastern Shore in Seaforth.
However when we got there the sun disappeared! Or more correctly, it didn't appear in the first place!
Nonetheless, we had a great visit with Cathy and Mary and their dogs. These two gals used to 'day care' Sophie during her first year when we were both working. Sophie loved staying there and learned so much from them and the other dogs.......like how to behave around other dogs.
There were a few other dogs staying there today so Sophie had a chance to play with them while Cathy took Ron and I on a tour of their 'spring' garden.
The pond was the highlight for me. I couldn't believe all the goldfish. Cathy said that they just keep multiplying! I was glad Sophie wasn't with us on the tour because she would have been in this pond so fast. The Lab in her you see.......
Their 'alpha' dog, Morgan was so happy to see us. I was amazed that he remembered us. He had his front leg removed not too long ago and is doing very well now. He is one of my favourite dogs of all time!

Sunday's Selection
Ever hear of Hank Snow? Well, having grown up here in Nova Scotia, I remember hearing his music during much of my 'growing up' years.
You see Hank Snow was born right here in Nova Scotia in a town/village called Brooklyn which is on the south shore.
I think he is 'country' at it's best when it was truly country music. Hope you enjoy this and have yourselves a great Sunday, ya hear!
And since it is Sunday why not check out Your Sunday Best over at Nancy's A Rural Journal. You will see some beautiful photography.

Retro Saturday
Check out this Royal Winton tea set I got at the Sally Ann last week. It was on display in the glass cabinet/counter.
I couldn't tell at first who the manufacturers were. I thought it was a Sadler. Then I saw the brand mark and was a little surprised. I don't usually see this too often....at least around here.
I have always liked what the Royal Winton company made over the years. I have a large collection of their square dessert serving plates with floral and country scenes. Will dig them out some day. They are mostly famous for their 'chintz' floral patterns.
I don't think this is an old set.....the brand stamp looks newish. Unless it was never used and in storage. Plus, I think it is a 'later' piece because it is 'decaled' and not hand -painted.
But it does have a lot of 'crazing/crackling'------which is on the glazed surface only. In any case this was too unique to pass up.
If you look closely at the above photo, there is a name 'Hector Gibson England'. I did a little research and found out that it was a company in Staffordshire, England that bore his name but could not find anything about him. Over the years a number of pottery/china companies joined forces and became one.

Rain, Rain Go Away Come Again Some Other Day!
OK! We are getting way too used to waking up and hearing rain hitting the windows. Let me see, I believe we have had only one day of sunshine in over 20 plus days.
Am I complaining? Yes I am. It would be so nice to remember what the warmth of the sun feels like again. And it would be great if we could get out to work in the garden.
I guess the weekend will be sunny. My grandmother would always say: 'Patience is a virtue." Well Nana, I am trying my best here!
Tomorrow I am taking Dad out for a doctors appointment. Should be 'interesting' trying to duck the showers with him in a 'transport' chair. I'll let you know.
In the meantime, 'back at the ranch', I am looking out the windows at a very green garden just waiting for a ray of sunshine to hit it......any day now.
Remember that 'sunny' day I mentioned, well these pics were taken on Sunday
along the canal in the Gaspereaux Valley.
