The Three Stacks

While heading home across the MacKay Bridge yesterday
I noticed the reflection of these three smoke stacks.

And since Ron was again driving and I had my camera
in the front seat, I proceeded to snap away as we were
going 70 km/h!

That would be frost on these bridge cables.

I, and a lot of people, find this location for a coal-burning
electric generating plant to be a bit odd.....in the middle of a city.
But that would be another story for another time.

A Drive Over The Bridge

This is the 'new' bridge which was built in 1970.
It is one of two that span Halifax Harbour.

Both are in constant state of repair/maintenance with the exception of the winter months,
thus the 'spot-painting' which looks like 'army issue'!

I used to drive my grandmother to bingo and every time we
drove over the bridge and then around and under it,

she would get confused and ask what bridge that was!
It used to crack me up.....in a good way.

This bridge spans the inner harbour near Bedford Basin.(click)

As Ron was driving across the other day I was having fun

snapping away at the two towers.

The MacKay Bridge is 1.2 km long (.77 mi.).

Each tower is 96 m. (315 ft) from water to top.

The road deck at centre span is 55.2 m (181.21 ft.).

This bridge is only for cars and trucks. No pedestrians or cyclists are permitted.

Enjoy the ride? Hope you weren't afraid of heights!

Contemplative Monday

The following quote is from: 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes From Pema Chodron'.

TRANSITIONAL BEINGS

"In a book I read recently, the author talked about humans
as transitional beings.......

beings that are neither fully caught or fully free
but are in the process of awakening.

I find it helpful to think of myself this way.

I'm in the process of becoming, in the process of evolving.

I'm neither doomed nor completely free,
but I'm creating my future with every word,
every action, every thought.

I find myself in a very dynamic situation with unimaginable potential.

I have all the support I need to simply relax and be with the transitional,

in-process quality of my life.

I have all I need in the process of awakening."

Eclectic Tastes

Since this is Sophie's birthday weekend
I thought it appropriate to play this
as she is a February gal.

My goodness but does this fellow have
a wonderful voice or what!

Have a peaceful Sunday.

Saturday Morning Post

It's Sophie's Birthday!!!
Sophie was born six years ago today.

This was her first day with us in late March 2007 down at the beach....with Ron.

Here she is with me. I remember she loved to be held and cuddled.

Here she is with Ron on his birthday in January 2013.

One of my all-time favourite shots of my two favourite critters in the world.

And here is Sophie looking out the window looking for anything that moves!!

It's been a wonderfully, exciting, eye-opening six years for us three!

Thanks Sophie!!

A Necessity

You may have noticed that we are never too far from water....be it a river, lake or ocean.

Ron and Sophie on the shore of Point Pleasant Park, Halifax last month.

Actually Ron and I met, where else?, in a pool!   Being a swimmer in university,

Ron swims like a fish. And he taught me to 'keep up' when in water.

When we moved west we both agreed that there had to be an ocean near by.........

so we chose Vancouver, British Columbia. And I guess it wouldn't be surprising

that we found a place to live that was a 'rocks throw' away from the Pacific Ocean!

We are both very comfortable and at ease near the ocean. And how fortunate we are

to have a dog who is equally, if not more, content to be in or around water of any kind.
