Thursday's Random Thoughts

                  Aloe Vera

Lots of birds at the feeders today. There are Nuthatches, Goldfinches, Mourning Doves, Blue Jays and Chickadees. I hope to get pictures of them soon.

We got lots of snow yesterday and it really is winter now around here. This is the time of year it usually settles in along the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. The snow will now come and go till April when we get lots of rain and the temperature stays pretty cool till May.

But here we are in the middle of January. Time can be so fleeting. All of a sudden, it seems, we have been transported into another season.

LOC-SD

Lately I`ve been posting with lots of colour, or at least trying to.

We have all heard of S.A.D., Seasonal Affective Disorder and how it can make these winter months seem like forever!

But I have just realized that along with the depletion of day-light hours and the `good`benefits of sunshine, we also lack colour stimulation this time of year. Everything is so drab and dull.

So I will attempt to remedy the potentially lethal disease I call LOC-SD (Lack Of Colour-Stimulation Disorder) and hopefully  `short-circuit` it`s devastating effects.

So, be it resolved, I will do my share to help in the fight to prevent my fellow bloggers from getting this dreadful winter affliction!

Contemplative Monday

I've been reading Taking The Leap by Pema Chodron. It is a tiny book/guide to help us realize and experience the benefits of taking time out to stop or pause what we are doing; and, in the process, freeing ourselves from old habits and fears.

She says: "Pausing is very helpful in this experience. It creates a momentary contrast between being completely self-absorbed and being awake and present. You just stop for a few seconds, breathe deeply, and move on. You don't want to make it into a project...........In the middle of just living, which is usually a pretty caught-up experience characterized by a lot of internal discussion with yourself, you just pause."

Sunday's Selection

You may have heard of this jazzy-soul singer but if not, I think she will get you up on your feet and movin' and groovin' on this wintry Sunday morning.


Her name is Janelle Monae. She is full of it ! It's like hearing and watching someone from the 60's and 70's from Motown, with some Jazz sounds thrown in. I absolutely love this gal.


Push that chair back and throw caution to the wind! Here we go......

Retro Saturday

It's winter and what do we all lack (at least in this neck of the woods)? Colour! So I thought I would brighten your day with a few retro things I found recently.


Check out the fella above! He is a wooden candelabra of sorts. He is a little beaten up but has a great patina and will brighten up any table.

This kitchen wall plaque was covered in grease with no shine at all. I've always loved these things. Looks like something Carmen Meranda would have worn on her head!

This little, about 5 inches, Japanese urn was also SHOUTING OUT at me. Check out those colours!

This 'planter' (I wouldn't use it, not solid enough for me) was also pretty dirty in the shop. I was surprised at its brightness when I cleaned it up.

There now, I hope this has brightened up your day and that your weekend is going very well. Amazing what a little colour can do for ya!

In For a Snowy Weekend

Corkscrew Witch Hazel.

It's supposed to snow for the next three days.....off and on. It started around lunchtime today and we have about 2 cm. down....that's about 1 inch.

Sophie was beyond herself and wanted one of us to go outside and 'play' with her....immediately! She will give you that look........ the 'I really, really need to get out of here and run around the yard' look.

I was the first to surrender to her conniving. So off we went with my camera in tow.

They were big flakes coming down which is always a sign that it will probably turn to rain or a mixture thereof.
