Eclectic Tastes

This old classic, being 'covered' here by Canadian Michael Buble,
was originally done in English by Dean Martin in 1953.
It was originally a Rumba instrumental song by Mexican
composers Luis Demetrio and Pablo Beltran ruiz.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

Slim pickins this week as far as 'outdoors' shots go,
I had a 'cold from hades' and a series of 'silent migraines' to boot!
I figure my 'trigger' for these migraines is the barometric pressure
which was oppressive that day at the shop....which I didn't open
due to the 'light show'.

Let's go back to 1976 for this one.
This is Ron and Paulette and they both volunteered
to give me a hand at a provincial camp for kids in the Valley.
I had my very first class there for a few days.

Bought this large framed print for the shop.
It is by Jack Vettriano of Scotland and is called 'The Singing Butler'.
I liked the beach theme which is very appropriate.

On way to work Monday passing 'my tree' on the Salt Marsh Trail.

We do live in a very 'busy' world.

As soon as I got this phone for the shop I dialed my childhood number.
A flood of memories raced back listening to the dial as I dialed each number.
Just the whole 'phone experience' was so different from today.......
not better, just different.

White Rugosa Rosa blossom in the garden.......scent is so wonderful.

In 1960 I was 12 years old and I think I joined the Boy Scouts that year.
I lasted only for one 'session'.
I just didn't fit into the program.....let's leave it at that.
This calendar is in the shop.

This very old photo of a little boy I believe is one of the British princes from that era,
is in the shop and has a mysteriousness about it......maybe even a creepiness.

Again from the shop....these little 'Peg Dolls'.

Giddy-up......this is 'Thunderbolt'....a very popular toy for some
back in the early 60's.

'Let It Be' is an all-time favourite.
This 'new-to-me' group does a good job 'covering' this classic.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

Here comes summer......

The old big house in which my shop is located
also has a pre-school. One of their yearly customs
is to have the local fire department show the kids
the fire truck and and how to use the hose.

L'Acadie....L'Acadie
This is the Acadian flag as we were leaving
La Cuisine de Bridgette yesterday morning
after having an Acadian breakfast of fish cakes/baked beans/eggs.

This field of grass was swaying in the wind the other day
as we headed up the hill.

On the way back down the hill
I 'caught' Ron soaking in the surroundings.

This is Sophie smiling!
She was at one of her very favourite places this week.....
Peggy's Cove area along the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

A month ago we noticed that a HUGE fishing net
had come ashore at the beach.
This week a couple of dozen volunteer surfers
arrived and cleaned up the entire beach area
along with this net!
Kudos to them!

......meanwhile back near Peggy's Cove high up on a rock.....

This bee looked 'drunk' with nectar from this Rhododendron blossom.

......a future Rhododendron blossom

'From My Perch' on Sunday....

Let me tell you all that traversing across/up/down these huge boulders
near Peggy's Cove is quite the workout.
This was the first year in a few years that Ron could
easily manage this challenging hike.
He got an excellent medical report this week.

These are but two of many 'kite-surfers'
that were criss-crossing the waters in front of me at the shop.

On leaving Peggy's Cove Tuesday,
we came across this little fishing hamlet with its charming out-buildings.

My brother, Bernard, was born on this day in 1952.
He died April 6, 1972.
He would have been 65 years old today.
Yes, time is fleeting.

My brother Dennis alerted me to this tune recently.
Dean Brody is a Canadian country singer
and lives in Nova Scotia.

This video features Shevy Price who just happens to be the mother
of my great-nephew, Gabe.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

These 'characters' are at the shop.

Heading towards the MacKay Bridge on way to Halifax.....

Saturday Morning Post

Here we are in June!

These tulips were from Ron's mother's garden.
We dug them up in 1998 and planted them here.
They have bloomed every year.

When I retired from teaching I gave myself a gift
of 100 French red tulips.
They came up the first year only.
Tulips aren't like what they were.

My favourite tree along the Salt Marsh Trail.....

Following the leader along the Atlantic View Trail.....

An aerial view of the shop....

Purchased this painting this week without knowing the artist.
I am searching but with not too much success.
I was drawn into those eyes.

Ron and Sophie.......

A 'Red-Winged Black Bird'......

We don't have mountains in our part of Nova Scotia
but we do have hills.
This is Hawkins Hill along the Atlantic trail.
The view from up there is quite nice.

A view along the trail of which I never tire.....

On our way up Hawkins Hill at the eastern end of the beach.....

My handsome husband.....

A lot of cyclists 'do the loop' on this stretch of the Eastern Shore
starting this time of year and into the fall.

Our 'Teddy Bear' rhododendron is the first of our rhodos to bloom.
