Getting To Know Me

My Aunt Annabel's death on September 25th was a shocker for my family.

Above is a photo of Aunt Annabel when she was about 17 or so.
When I saw this photo at her 'wake' last week, I thought how
stunning she looked at such a young age.

Photo on the left is my aunt with her first daughter in 1944.

The photo on the right was a very typical scene for our
families when I was young.....at the beach.
That is Annabel with her daughter on the left
and my sister on the right.
That little fella with the droopy diaper/bathing suit would be me!
This was taken in the summer of 1949.

Above is Annabel with her husband and my uncle Dan who passed away a few years ago.

Aunt Annabel had a very big influence on my family throughout the years.

She `filled in` when my mother was ill and we knew we could always go to her house
any time we wanted to......for a meal, comfort or just to play with our cousins.

You know when a very integral person in your family dies, and there is a void
or empty space that will never again be filled ?

This would be my Aunt Annabel. She will be sorely missed.

A Glimpse

A little bit of fall colour can go a long way......
as we discovered yesterday late afternoon heading home along the Waverley Road in Halifax.

This is the start of 'fall colour' here in the Maritimes.
The next two weeks ought to be spectacular.

Perfection

Now,  just tell me that this doesn't look like a perfect day at the beach.

This Inukshuk  (click to learn more) was already there
and facing east out into the Atlantic.

Contemplative Monday

Just wanted to say that it is good to be back here. I missed you all.
Also, the following 'lesson' helped me last week when I thought
I had something unique to me only. Thanks so much for your
words of encouragement.

The following quote is from: 'Heart Advice, Weekly Quotes From Pema Chodron'.

STEPPING-STONES TO AWAKENING

" There's no way to make a dreadful situation pretty.

But we can use the pain of it to recognize
our sameness with other people.

Shantidiva said that since all sentient beings suffer from strong,
conflicting emotions, and all sentient beings get
what they don't want and can't hold on to what they do want,

and all sentient beings have physical distress, why am I making
such a big deal about just me?

Since we are all in this together,
why am I making such a big deal about myself?

Whatever usually drags us down and causes us to withdraw

into ourselves is actually the stepping-stone

for awakening our compassion

and contacting the vast, unbiased mind of the warrior."

Back Soon

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I will be back starting Monday.

Been resting a lot and I am almost back to normal! Whatever that is!!

Thanks so much for your kind thoughts and wishes. Believe me it really
helps to hear from you when 'things' become a little shaky in one's life.
