A Change Is As Good As A Rest

As some of you know from former posts here,
two friends of ours were clearing out their house in Halifax,
and moving to northern France.

They were selling everything and giving the rest away
to anyone who wanted it.

This photograph piece is by Katharine and was done in 1995.
It is composed of about a dozen photos, of, in this case, the Bay of Fundy.
I remember going to that exhibit and buying a 'pear study' done in the same manner.

Here's another by Katharine called 'Waves and Rocks'.
The Lotte lamp is one of two we bought.

This painting called 'Sample Strips Cut From Sky During and After Sunset'
was done by a local artist in 1985 and was a gift to June (Katharine's mother).
I wanted to buy it and June said I could have it.
It is a water colour and I like everything about it.

Now that June and Katharine are in France,
we have a few mementos of their very busy week emptying
out a house filled with art and furniture.

Changing things/adding things to one's surroundings
can give you a much needed 'lift' in the middle of a long winter.

Sherlock? Is That You?

When we were visiting friends the other day,
they were showing us an old photo album filled
with small prints.

It was Ron's turn to take a look, he forgot his reading glasses.

There just happened to be magnifying glass handy.......

I called him 'Sherlock' as he was looking through the pictures.
I think he found that funny....

Much Needed 'Girl Time'

Poor Sophie! Always stuck with the guys.

So when opportunity knocks, she takes full advantage of it.

The photo below shows her with Katharine, our friend,
the day before Katharine and her mother left for France to live.

Sophie and Katharine became good friends in the few hours
they spent together.......I guess 'girl time' is essential.

Contemplative Monday

The following quote is from 'The Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh' (click)
published by 'Shambhala Pocket Series'.

RIGHT PATH

"In Buddhism, we have the practice of apranihita, aimlessness.

If you put an aim in front of you, you'll be running all your life,
and happiness will never be possible.

Happiness is possible only when you stop running and cherish the present moment
and who you are.

You don't need to be someone else; you're already a wonder of life."

Eclectic Tastes

Life happens in spite of ourselves sometimes.
No need for regrets, it is/was what it is.

Edith Piaf feels the same way.

Enjoy and have a wonderful Sunday (Monday in NZ) all.

Saturday Morning Post

Reconnecting and house-bound this week........

Back in the 70's we met a woman, June,  from London who lived here in Halifax
with her daughter Katharine.
June is an artist and this past week she is selling a lot of her paintings and everything else.

You see, June is moving to northern France to live with Katharine.
Katharine is building a house and a business in a small village
in the country. The above photo is a design of her house.

It has been 20 years since we have seen either of these two ladies.......
our lives went in different directions.
It was so good to hear from them this week
and today they are coming to our place for lunch.
Then on Monday they are off to France to begin another chapter in their lives.

June's house in the centre of the city is up for sale now.
Now we have a good reason to visit France.

These next few shots were taken from within the house the past few days.

The weather has been really cold and icy....literally icy.

This is a folk art painting in our living room. I really like the simplicity of it.....
three women laying out the cod fish to dry in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

All this ice is gone now due to the rain we got on Thursday
before the 20 cm of snow we got the same day.

We are having a real winter this year.

Sophie LOVES it!
I don't know how she did it but she found the exact spot where her bone was.
She sniffed around a bit and dived in through the snow
and there it was!
