Saturday Morning Post

Warm and humid week.....

Spider season and LOTS of them!

I took Sophie down to MacDonald Hill one evening and a thunder/lightning
storm started up.

So we ducked into the shop until it let up somewhat.

Always amazed at the plants that can grow in sand.....

At Point Pleasant Park and we came upon this 'clutch' of kayaks?
What does one call a bunch of grounded kayaks?
Oh, I know!...... 'beached kayaks'......maybe

I got this last week from a woman who was 'down-sizing'......
a vintage 'cheese-round' box.

Ron and Sophie waiting for me to leave work....

Up up and away.....

I also got these very old quilts last week......
left: 'starflower quilt' over 100 years old....
Right: a 70 year old quilt signed in stitching by
the congregation of the Valleyfield United Church
(same as the Episcopal Church in the US)
in Valleyfield, Prince Edward Island.

Before the Halifax Pride Parade last Saturday,
a legion of young people had the entire crowd
to quieten down for five minutes to honour
those lost in the 'Orlando' shootings.
It was a very moving and emotional few minutes.

And then the parade began....

This young fella stood in front of me with such a wonderful smile
 I couldn't resist capturing it.

Contemplative Monday

"People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle.
But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air,
but to walk on earth.

Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize:
a blue sky, white clouds, greens leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child---
our own two eyes.
All is a miracle."

Who would have ever thought that these two very talented singers
together could make such beautiful music?

Enjoy and have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

The week in pictures......

Solo tree on the Salt Marsh Trail just down the road......

From my perch at shop.....

Doing the '207 loop'.......

Medicine bottles at the shop.....

Where the sky meets the earth......

We felt like the paparazzi  last Monday
when we found ourselves in the
same pizza shop as 'Sid the Kid'.....
he is a local celeb  around here....
think NHL, Pittsburgh Penguins,
all round nice guy.

Stony Beach....one of three beaches I can see from my perch at the shop.....

Had a giant birch tree taken down the other day.....
it was leaning just too close for comfort towards
the power lines far too long.

Her Majesty is showing off everywhere.....Queen Anne's Lace.

Speaking of royalty.....Princess Sophie and her new hair cut.

I like this version done by 'Lauryn Hill'
who was in town this week performing at the Halifax Jazz Festival.
My nephew said it was the best concert he has ever seen.

Enjoy and have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

The colour of summer continues......

'U-Pick' veggies at the shop.....

Our cherries are ripening as I speak.......usually the birds get them
before we do. That's OK.

Some changes to happen at the shop in the next while......
clearing out all the textiles (quilts and blankets) first.

This flower and insect caught my attention yesterday......

And people continue to swim in this very dangerous water.....

Wednesday from the shop I spied Ron and Sophie up by the river......
Sophie digging and Ron trying to get photo of a drone high above him.

Here are two Pitcher Plant flowers we found at Peggy's Cove
on Thursday.......

As I mentioned above, we were at Peggy's Cove for a couple of hours......
in the fog but that was okay with us.

Where did this strawberry pie come from you may ask?
Well, we were at our friends', Mike and Cathy,
and she served this scrumptious dessert!!
(it had a crushed almond crust)

Now back to Peggy's.......it is full of these strange rocks.
I am wondering how long the little rock has been holding up the bigger one.

We found a very narrow trail that wove us through
this maze of rock and flora.

It was very chilly along this part of the south shore coast......

and that suited Sophie just fine, thank you.

Para-surfer at Stony Beach.....

Contemplative Monday

"There is a Zen story about a man riding a horse that is galloping very quickly.
Another man, standing alongside the road, yells at him,
"Where are you going?"
and the man on the horse yells back,
"I don't know, ask the horse."
I think that is our situation.
We are riding many horses that we cannot control."

Eclectic Tastes

Considering the state of the world in which we find ourselves,
I thought a word or two by John Lennon would be appropriate.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.
