Saturday Morning Post

High up and back to sea level.........

This airliner is on it's way to the U.S. eastern seaboard......

Our 'sitting Buddha' catching a few rays.....

Two of A.A.Milne's classics at the shop....

On the Northwest Arm last week......somebody's #1!!

Taken from atop MacDonald Hill looking south....

This Northwest Arm shoreline is on the other side of peninsular Halifax.

We could all look up more often....amazing what's up there.

This needlepoint framed picture was in Ron's mother's kitchen for many years.....
now it is in the shop.

This season's first line of clothes.....

This is Nova Scotia's 'provincial flower'......the Mayflower.
We found this patch at the park.

At sea level......these two kayakers are enjoying perfect weather for their sport.

.........The Queen

Queen Elizabeth II turned 90 just recently.
We watched a very good documentary last night on CBC TV
about her life from the beginning to now.
I recommend it if you haven't seen it
and if you like this sort of thing.

I feel I grew up with her two oldest kids, Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
We are the same age, Charles and I, and I felt 'connected' in a way....
even though our lives couldn't have been more different.

I think the Queen is an incredible human being.......continuing to
engage herself with the duties she has had for so many years.

Yes she has 'help' and money to do all these things very efficiently,
but think about it, her schedule is something that would make
anybody spin in their tracks.

A few people like to 'bash' the Royal Family,
I am not one of them.

I have this framed print at the shop when the Queen was very young.

Eclectic Tastes

I would be remiss not to post something here by Prince
who passed away this week.

This is one of his most popular songs, Purple Rain,
and performed here by Adam Levine.

Fasten your seat belts...this is an incredible performance.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Saturday Morning Post

Full week at the beaches and a 'meet-up'......

Sophie always waits for Ron to make sure he is with us.

On the approach to MacDonald House......

The cliffs as seen from Lawrencetown Beach......

And looking the other way down the beach....

These three are a very long way from home. They live in Australia.
Angus, Georgia and their father Richard, were in town visiting family.
Richard was a student in a high school in which I taught,
and he and a few of his classmates/friends would 'hang out'
in my room and help with my students who had challenges.
It was so good to meet his children and spend some time together
catching up and eating pizza!

Rogue wave at the beach......

A couple of needlepoint framed works at the shop.

Beached.....

Dune grass/boardwalk/lifeguard house.....

Beach treasure.....

My preferred view of 'watching the world go by'......

'Undying Love'

We passed by this 'declaration of love' yesterday at the beach.
A sure sign of spring if you ask me!

Do you remember ever doing this back in the day or even now?
Where and how did you declare your 'undying love' for that special person?

OK, I remember  in grade eight that I carved my and 'Mary Ann's' initials
into a wooden park bench.

Your turn........

Shop Talk

I think this is of Chinese origin  but to be safe let's call it Asian
......much like calling anyone who lives in Canada
and the United States North American.

I got this wood carving at an auction a couple of years ago
and loved the detail and general appearance of it.

It is a fisherman with his net,  pulling in his catch.
I am a little surprised it has not sold at the shop as of yet.
Maybe this summer it will......he would look so good in his own place.

This weekend the East Coast Music awards are taking place in Cape Breton.

Have a wonderful Sunday one and all.

Saturday Morning Post

A bunch of 'new characters' this week......

Meet 'Enrique'....our newest 'tenant'.

A very typical April day in Nova Scotia.....the snow lasts till evening.

Imagine how hardy Crocus must be to withstand
the climate here in early spring....not to mention that insect on it.

Hope for the future....June.....when this Rhododendron bud will be in full blooming mode.

Took this photo on Thursday from the shore at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax.

From my perch at the shop looking east towards Lawrencetown Beach.

Trios at the shop......

A vintage couple.....

A children's book at the shop.......

From my perch at the shop on MacDonald Hill.....

A Quick Visit To Mt. Fuji

You must admit that items like this are just not being produced anymore.
This was hand-painted by a Japanese artisan and is part of a tea set  I got last week.

It is called 'Japanese Eggshell Porcelain with Mt. Fuji motif'.

Do you think we will ever return to the days when craftsmanship
and quality was a priority for household items?

Preparation Time

I've been going through lots of photos of my father lately.
I am in charge of the 'invitation' to his 100th birthday celebration in June.

I got it down to these from which to choose for the card.
Wanted to have some from the times in his life that were important to him.....
his wife, family, sports and his stint in the army.

It's going to be a good celebration.

Saturday Morning Post

VROOM to TIMBER!

This fella pulled into the vacant parking lot early last Sunday
as I was opening up the shop for the day.

Sophie and I had a good spring walk this week at Birch Cove Park in Dartmouth.

We had snow earlier this week much to Sophie's delight.....at Point Pleasant.

Trekking up MacDonald Hill......

Imagining the past through the fog last week at the park......

The gazebo at the 'point' in Point Pleasant Park in Halifax....

I really like this photo of my brother, Dennis, and I which I found
at my father's yesterday....we were probably around 10 and 12 years old.

I'm liken this lichen.

A world of life on this tree stump.....

Always good to look up too......

Fallen......
