Eclectic Tastes

Do I ever remember this tune from 1962!
Wish I knew then what I know now!
Hey, maybe not, considering that it was 1962.
Still had lots of fun.

Have a wonderful Sunday all!!

Saturday Morning Post

I guess we really do spend a lot of time around the ocean.......

........with the exception of this photo of a Queen Anne Highboy Dresser
we are trying to sell. Had this for 30 years and time to say goodbye.
Switching to lighter, sleeker wood furniture and less ornate.
Anyone need a dresser?

Will she decide?

Parasurfer ripping through the water.

Added this cute little kitty (an Imari Reproduction) to the shop yesterday.

Leading the way to.....?

This guy made it all look so easy last evening at 'the point' in Lawrencetown.

All downhill from here!

Again, last evening at 'the point'.

I loved the sky on this particular morning.

Sophie and her buddies.

I really like how well my Carnival Glass fits in with Amy's (from Fancy Lucky Vintage) display.

From 'my perch' at the shop looking towards the beach.

Look hand!!

One would think, from here, that the fisherman is an oil painting...right?
Well it isn't. It is a needlepoint work I got recently and put in the shop.

I think I know those two!

Beach art.

Getting One's Bearings

The other evening Ron, Sophie and I went to Horseshoe Island Park
which is on the western side of peninsular Halifax.

This Park is on the shores of the Northwest Arm
which is a body of ocean water that creates a bay-like inlet.

The tower on the right is called the 'Dingle Tower' which is accessible
and has great views of the city and surrounding areas.

The wooded area in the centre-left is Point Pleasant Park
which is our favourite 'dog park'. It is at the southern most
point on peninsular Halifax.

So you see, students, lol, part of Halifax, the peninsular part,
is almost completely surrounded by water........
with the Northwest Arm on one side
and Halifax Harbour on the other side.,
and the best dog park situated exactly between these two bodies of water.

Your 'test' will be in two hard!!

Rowers from a nearby rowing club on the 'Arm' at dusk.

Easily Amused

Usually when we are at the beach, like yesterday morning,
I am looking far out into the vast Atlantic Ocean.

And occasionally I look down at the interaction between the sand and the water
and am always delighted at what I see:

 I am easily amused.

Can't Believe I Did This

The things we do....
For years I was an avid collector of 'Depression Glass'.
I had TONS of it everywhere around our house....on ledges,
glass shelves, in the get the picture.

Just so happened that a staff-writer for the city newspaper lived in our community.
And she got wind of this collection I had through a mutual friend.

She called and set up a meeting at our house. We sat a talked for over an hour
as she scribbled down her notes.

The next day a photographer from the newspaper was there.
He said to hold up a I did!
And in a few days this big article was in the paper.
I GULPED when I saw the photo!

I still have most of this collection but no longer around the house.
It is safe, sound and stored in the basement.......
waiting to be taken to the 'shop'.

Hey, I guess I was just young and stupid!!

The Horses of Sable Island

A couple of weeks ago we took our friend Gaye to the
Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History. There was a photo exhibit
of the horses of Sable Island (click to learn more).

Ron and Gaye taking in these beautiful photographs.
The second time for Ron and I to visit this exhibit......
like it more each time.

This was Gaye's favourite one.

Contemplative Monday

The following quote is from 'Heart Advice, weekly Quotes from Pema Chodron'.

"The more we connect with a bigger perspective, the more we connect with energetic joy.
Exertion is connecting with our appetite for enlightenment.

It allows us to act, to give, to work appreciatively with whatever comes our way.

If we really knew how unhappy it was making this whole planet that we all try
to avoid pain and seek pleasure-----how that is making us so miserable
and cutting us off from our basic goodness-----

then we would practice as if our hair were on fire.

There wouldn't be any question of thinking we had a lot of time and we can do this later.

Yet when we begin to practice exertion, we see that sometimes we can do it
and sometimes we can't.

The question becomes: How do we connect with inspiration?
How do we connect with the spark and joy that's available in every moment?"

Saturday Morning Post

A week in August in Nova Scotia.....

'Yours truly' drying off Sophie at the park in Halifax.

A path in the dune grass.

Hey, wait for me you two!

Had lunch yesterday with our friend, Gaye from New York State.
She was touring Nova Scotia for the past week.

Morning beach shot.

A rose by any other name.

August morning at the beach.

My Carnival Glass vases have found a 'home' amongst Amy's vintage accessories at the shop.

Two beach birds in flight.

Very colourful beach/sea foam.

Another day at the beach.

One of the very few surfers that braves the waters of the north Atlantic without a wet suit.

Footprints in the sand....

Wet rocks and sand.

Lifeguards' chair at beach.

Sophie 'in her element'.

Sophie and her surfing buddies.
